Brief description of the event
This five day event is for intermediate to advanced, female sea kayakers. It is an amazing opportunity to attend a relaxed women’s event in a unique, remote location. The event will be based from our private island and all meals will be provided by our resident chef Mollie. Accommodation, food, coaching and equipment are all included so you can focus on enjoying your stay.
Our base is on the northern tip of the Isle of Lunga, just to the west of the Sound of Luing. Surrounded by the sea on all sides, with no roads or cars, we really are immersed in the wild. Right on our doorstep we have the Cuan sound, the Sound of Luing and the mighty Greydogs. It is the most incredible venue to play and develop your kayaking in the tideraces. We also have sheltered pools within 50m of the main house which are perfect for rolling practice.
The event will start on Monday afternoon from Easdale on the Isle of Seil. We will paddle to The Island with the ebbing tide and will also have a powerboat on hand for transporting additional luggage so that you can bring some luxuries too! We will then have exclusive use of our own private island as a base for our daily adventures. Each day there will be coaching, trips and development sessions with our experienced coaches. We will finish the week by returning to Easdale with the flooding tide on the Friday afternoon.
We are looking for women who paddle regularly at an intermediate to advanced level. Women who are happy in a dynamic environment, can manoeuvre their kayak and are happy paddling in some swell or tide. A semi-reliable roll or the ability to do a good self-rescue would be ideal. If you are not sure about your level, please don’t hesitate to give us a call so that we can have a chat.
We encourage you to use your own equipment if you have it as we want you to feel comfortable and confident with the kit you are using. Don’t have your own equipment? No problem, we have a variety of boats, paddles and other equipment available for you to use. Just let us know what you need when you book.
We have carefully selected coaches who provide a relaxed and supportive environment for everyone around them. We want you to feel like you can be yourself and that you can support others too. It is important to start with this as our foundation so that you can maximise on fun learning opportunities. Ratios will be kept at a maximum of 1:4.
Lizzy Benwell will be heading up the event as our resident head guide. She has spent the last 15 years exploring and sea kayaking on the west coast of Scotland. The tideraces in the area are some of her favourite spots. She is excited to welcome you to our island home.
Alice McInnes will be joining us from Edinburgh, she paddles all around Scotland but loves being able to use our unique location here on The Island as a base. She came to visit earlier this year with a group of her clients and has been looking forward to coming back since.
Kag Gannon will be part of the team for this special event. Her local-knowledge is second to none, having grown up on the neighbouring island of Luing. Her enthusiasm for sea kayaking in wild places is infectious!
With a team like this, we hope you will feel completely at home.
